Winner of the 2019 Netspar MSc Thesis Award
Congratulations to Actuarial Science Master's graduate Lu Yi, whose project entitled “Quantifying inter-generational equity under different target benefit plan designs” won the 2019 Netspar MSc Thesis Award. Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement) is a European think tank and research network dedicated to promoting a wider understanding of the economic and social implications of pensions, aging and retirement. Papers nominated for their thesis awards are assessed on academic quality, relevance to the Netspar research program, originality and execution of the research, and accessibility and presentation. The scientific committee who evaluated this year's entries considered Lu’s work "striking because of its practical relevance in view of the current discussion about pension reform and solidarity between generations, in the Netherlands and in other countries." Lu, who recently began her PhD in Financial Econometrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, took a break from her studies to accept the award—together with a €3000 prize—at the 2019 International Pension Workshop in Leiden.
